At Families Fighting for Justice, we know all too well the pain, frustration and lasting trauma that families are left with after the tragic loss of a loved one to murder. That pain is only made worse when the justice system falls short of what victims’ families deserve – accountability, truth, and time served.
We are sharing and supporting a petition that calls for an urgent review of the current system, which allows those found guilty of murder to be considered for release on mental health grounds, without serving any prison sentence.
This petition, launched by a bereaved mother, seeks to change the law so that all murderers, regardless of their mental health assessment, must serve prison time before becoming eligible for parole. It’s about fairness. It’s about justice. It’s about ensuring that no family is left to carry the unbearable weight of a sentence that feels unfinished.
As a charity led by those who have walked this path, we believe that time must be served. A life taken should never be forgotten or minimised.
