The summer holidays can be a particularly challenging time for children and families following the murder or culpable road death of a loved one. While many families are planning days out and holidays, bereaved children can often experience feelings of isolation, anxiety and loss.
Through OLLY, a Families Fighting for Justice project, we aim to create opportunities for children to make new memories, build friendships and simply enjoy being children again in a safe, supportive environment.
Throughout August, a variety of activities are planned to help bring children together, encourage confidence and provide positive experiences during the school holidays.
🏕 Five-Day Camping Adventure
One of the highlights of the summer will be OLLY’s annual five-day camping trip to Wales.
Camping gives children the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, take on new challenges, build confidence and create lasting friendships. For many, it is one of the most anticipated events of the year and an opportunity to make memories that will stay with them for years to come.
🎳 Bowling
Simple activities like bowling can have a huge impact. Spending time together, sharing laughter and encouraging one another helps children develop friendships with others who understand their experiences.
🦀 Beach Adventures & Crab Fishing
Time spent outdoors provides opportunities to relax, explore and enjoy the simple pleasures of summer. Activities like these encourage conversation, confidence and the chance to enjoy new experiences together.
🎉 Summer Party at The Hub
Our summer party provides another opportunity for children to come together during the school holidays, enjoy games and activities, and spend time with friends in a welcoming and supportive environment.
📷 Follow the OLLY Journey
We’ll be sharing photographs and updates from many of the activities throughout the month. We hope you’ll follow the OLLY journey and see the positive difference these experiences continue to make.
💛 Thank You
These activities are only possible because of the incredible support of volunteers, supporters, partner organisations and everyone who believes every child deserves the opportunity to make happy memories following tragedy.
