We are proud to see Chantel’s Law gain the national attention it deserves, with both Members of Parliament and national media lending their voices to this urgent cause. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to The Express for covering our campaign, and to Esther McVey MP for publicly backing the proposed law change.
Speaking passionately about the injustice faced by families who are unable to lay their loved ones to rest, Ms McVey said:
“The current system allows perpetrators to manipulate the law, avoiding full accountability and leaving families in perpetual anguish.”
She continued:
“Chantel’s Law seeks to rectify this by treating the desecration of a body as an integral part of the murder, ensuring that such heinous acts result in appropriate sentencing.”
And most powerfully of all:
“It is time for the government to act. Chantel’s Law is not just a legal necessity. It is a moral imperative.”
Chantel Taylor was tragically murdered in 2004, and her remains have never been fully recovered. Her mother, Jean Taylor, who leads Families Fighting for Justice, has spent the last 18 years campaigning for justice — not just for her daughter, but for all families who continue to suffer in silence.
With more than 10,000 signatures already backing this campaign, and strong cross-party support building, Chantel’s Law would ensure that those who murder and conceal their victim’s remains face a minimum 40-year sentence with no parole if the remains are never recovered.
We at Families Fighting for Justice welcome this public support and thank everyone involved — including MPs, journalists, and every individual who has signed and shared the petition. We will never stop fighting for justice, truth, and lasting change.
