From Marching to Movement: Families Fighting for Justice Then, Now and Always

Back in 2008, we took to the streets of London with banners in our hands and pain in our hearts. That first march wasn’t just a public outcry — it was the start of a movement. Families Fighting for Justice was born out of the voices of those who had lost the most, demanding change and calling for the voices of victims’ families to be heard.

Our mission from day one has been clear: to speak up for those who no longer can, to support families left behind, and to bring real change to a system that too often overlooks those in grief.

Led by a mother who knows that pain first-hand, our work is rooted in experience, not theory. We know what it’s like to feel forgotten, to be left in the dark, to carry the weight of a life sentence without committing any crime. That’s why we’ve spent nearly two decades fighting — for justice, for truth, and for lasting support.

We’ve Never Stopped Fighting

From the campaign for Chantel’s Law, to peer support every Wednesday, and educational programmes that aim to break cycles before they begin — our fight has evolved, but our heart remains the same.

We want real deterrents put back into our justice system. We want respect for life restored — in communities, in sentencing, in society. And we want no family to ever feel alone, confused, or unsupported after tragedy strikes.

Still Marching — In Different Ways

Today, we march through action. We speak in Parliament. We support grieving families face-to-face. We light virtual candles to honour those taken too soon. We create safe spaces to talk, to cry, to heal.

From the tragic loss of Chantel Taylor, to the calls for change led by families like the Hopleys, our story continues to be written — not in silence, but in strength. Every name, every memory, every step forward — it all matters.

The Movement Continues

To anyone grieving a loved one, feeling lost or unheard — please know: we hear you. We see you. And we’re here to walk with you.

We know. We care. We understand.

If you would like to get involved, seek support, or simply talk to someone who understands, please get in touch or join us at our next Peer Support Wednesday.

Together, we’ll keep fighting. For justice. For change. For those we’ll never forget.
